Publication of Classification Information
The general rules for the M1 emission classification have been updated so that Rakennustieto can publish classification information and classified products in its services. However, the company has the option to refuse to publish the information in the application portal.
Misuse of the Classification Mark
A completely new section on the misuse of the classification mark has been introduced. An increasing number of cases involving the misuse of the M1 mark have been observed in the market. For example, company websites may create the impression that an entire product portfolio is M1 classified, even though the classification may apply only to individual products or may not exist at all. In addition, cases have been identified where the M1 mark continues to be used on products whose classification has already expired.
Such practices are contrary to the rules of the M1 Emission Classification and may distort competition as well as mislead decision-makers, designers, and consumers. Rakennustieto has established a standardized procedure for situations where the M1 mark is used in violation of the rules. The purpose of the misuse process is to ensure the proper use of the classification mark, prevent misleading marketing, and protect the credibility of the M1 classification. The process also covers marketing activities carried out by resellers and other parties within the supply chain.
Clear Rules for the Use of the M1 Classification Mark
The M1 classification mark is a registered trademark that may only be used for products and related marketing materials when the product has been granted a valid M1 classification by Rakennustieto.
The M1 classification mark must not be:
- Modified in any way
- Used as a general symbol of quality or sustainability for a company
- Used for products that do not have an M1 classification
- Used for products whose classification has expired
A Shared Goal: Transparent and Reliable Markets
The M1 classification is a well-known and respected quality label within the construction industry, providing reliable information on material emissions. For this reason, it is important that the mark is always used correctly and only in accordance with the applicable rules. We encourage all stakeholders to review their marketing materials and ensure that M1 classifications are presented accurately and transparently. If you identify any potential cases of misuse in the market, please notify us.
